Today, I got to take my thoughts, ideas and pre-conceived notions out into the wild, and when I say the wild, I mean the wild. A High School classroom no less.
I had the privilege to speak with a group of very sharp and eager marketing students and let me tell you, it was refreshing.
Not just because its good to take your message public and have people hear it, but because its so important to hear what people think about your brand and what it means to them.
These guys are right on the cusp of being the full fledged target market for NASCAR (16-18 year olds) and it was cool to hear what they feel about the sport and the brand I work for. What it means to them and what, if anything, we can do to get them to buy our products in the future.
Today’s assignment, other than having to hear me drone on for 30 minutes, was to come up with a text marketing campaign for one of our winter events.
There was some smart stuff, stuff I will pass on. But it taught me two very important lessons:
- First, get your thoughts and message out there, it will hone your thoughts and make your vision clearer for what’s important.
- Second, listen to others, young and old. Great ideas come from everywhere!
